Testimonial

From Eudora Aleta Ambuleh, Founder of ACWES

When the COVID-19 crisis shook the world, many people suffered in silence—but seniors, women, and vulnerable families were among the most affected.

During that difficult time, I could not sit still. I began going door to door, leaving simple notes that said:

If you need help, call me. I am available.

I made myself available to the community.

Many women were isolated. Some faced abuse. Some homes had no food. Children were suddenly home, families were overwhelmed, and many people did not know where to turn.

I began visiting grocery stores, asking for leftover food donations, searching for ways to help. Whatever I received, I brought home and opened my garage on Saturdays so women and families could come and collect food with dignity.

I also reached out to food organizations and asked them to support our community in ways that reflected our real needs. I explained that many families needed staple foods like rice, chicken, and nourishing meals that could sustain a household.

Support came, and for six months food was distributed to families in need.

That season reminded me of something I had always carried in my heart since coming to Canada: a deep care for seniors, women, and community well-being.

I have always been drawn to seniors—speaking with them at bus stops, on the street, in everyday life. Listening to their wisdom, asking about the past, learning from their experiences. I believe no senior should feel alone.

Our seniors are the wisdom keepers. Their stories, knowledge, and life lessons must not be lost.

From that purpose, African Canadian Women’s Engagement Society (ACWES) was born.

Today, my hope is to gather more people who care—people who want to support seniors, uplift women, strengthen families, and build a connected community where no one is forgotten.

Please join us. Together, we can turn compassion into action.
